lead suggest that there trumps are breaking well and that West has some Spade
honour). (Normal lead to play trumps when you have declarer’s other known
suit).
Initially
you have 2 Spade winners, 3 heart winners and 2 Clubs bringing your tally to 7
winners.
If
the trumps break 32 this will bring the total to 9. Therefore the other trick
must come from either ruffing a Spade in dummy or setting up a Spade. BUT, if
you look more carefully, between the 2 hands you have AKJ10
enabling you to get an extra trick as long as you are prepared to lose a
trick in the suit. Looking at it from another view point if you are prepared to
LOSE
2 Spades and 1 Diamond then you will easily get home.
So
draw trumps in 3 rounds and merely play a low spade towards dummy’s Jack. Now
you easily get home with 3 Spades, 5 trumps and Ace King of Clubs.
