Our hand is relatively easy this week but I am surprised how many players got it wrong.
At trick 1 you might as well try the Queen and East plays the King which you take with the Ace.
Initially you have 8 winners:- 6 trumps and 2 minor suit Aces.
In order to generate two extra tricks you will now have to rely on the Club suit and appreciate just how good your clubs are ie the J1098 between the two hands.
After drawing trumps, ending in your hand, you must play the Jack of clubs and let it run and now the contract is safe. Because West holds at least one top club (here two) you finesse twice and are then guaranteed 2 Club further club tricks.
Some players finesse once and then seem to look a gift horse in the mouth and lay down the Ace expecting the King or Queen to fall. Here it doesn’t. If a finesse has worked once it will work again.
As I say to my students you enjoyed it so much the first time why not do it again
