§8  is led and East wins and plays back ¨4 to partner’s Ace and a Diamond to

 the King and a third round of Diamonds is played by East Plan your play.

Our hand this week comes from the EBU Silver Plate Semi Finals competition and at both the auction and the play were the same. 2NT was Jacoby asking opener for more definition and 4H was a sign off showing a minimum hand with six hearts.

Both Wests led  second highest §8 and both Easts switched to fourth highest Diamonds won by West who continued a second Diamond and now both declarers trumped high just in case West was out of Diamonds too as was the case.

Declarer then drew trumps and threw his potential losing spades on the established Diamond and the club in dummy.

Declarer made 6 trumps 1 spade, 1 Diamond and 2 Clubs and there Ws no need to take the Spade finesse which would have actually worked.

(NB Had East played back ¨2 maybe declarer would think he had played from a four card suit and not bothered to ruff high- but we will never know as both Easts played back the ¨4 and didn’t give declarer a chance to go wrong)
