At trick one, although West bid Spades you must not play the King. Nobody in his right mind would lead the Queen from AQJ so East is marked with the missing Spade Ace.

The opponents then switch to Hearts cashing two winners before switching to the Club Queen.

Initially, you will need to set up two club ruffs in dummy and will not be able to draw all the trumps yet. If as expected East has a doubleton Spade Ace then you will only need one club ruff.

With this in mind, at trick four you take the Ace and cash one high trump pleased to see the Queen fall. You now play a second and third Club ruffing in dummy. To keep all your options open you now lead a small spade off the table pleased to see the Ace fall. East wisely plays another Trump.

Now that the Ace has fallen you will only need to take one club ruff so you draw the last trump and dispose of your other club loser on the promoted Spade King in dummy.

You have made 5 trumps, 2 Clubs, 1 Club ruffed and 1 Spade
