On our hand this week we receive a favourable lead with East immediately playing the King so now we have three Spade tricks in the bag.

Playing Match point pairs every overtrick is vital and we need to go after Diamonds straight away losing to East who now plays back his partner’s suit (to no avail).

We must keep our assets hidden and without much ado you should cash all your Diamond winners.

You intend taking the Heart finesse but you should cash the King first just in case there is a singleton Queen floating about (offside). Here however West turns up with the  singleton Queen and now you have three Heart tricks in the bag.

Your trick tally has now gone up to 11 ( 3 Spades, 3 Hearts, 4 Diamonds and 1 Club). You now cash all your winners finishing in the closed hand . However West throws all his Spades and unfortunately for you keeps the Clubs guarded and you lose the last club trick at trick 13.. However 11 tricks here will be an excellent Match Point score.
