If you like number rules then this hand is for you.

 

In order to make this contract you will have to cut communications between West and East so that West cannot enjoy all his clubs. Once you have cut communications then you can finesse Diamonds into the “safe Hand”.

The RULE OF SEVEN enables you to decide how many rounds to hold up the Spades. You add the number of cards between dummy and your hand and take the total from 7. This result is the number of times you have to hold up. So between hand and dummy we have 5 spades so we will need to hold up 7-5 times ie twice(In effect you are making allowances for East to be exhausted of his Spades after three rounds, assuming the Spades break 5:3)

So you take the third round of Spades with the Ace and take a Diamond finesse starting with the 9. If West covers come back to hand via a Heart and finesse the 8 through West again.

East will eventually win a Diamond but you will generate two in the process.

You will make 1 Spade, 3 Hearts, 2 Diamonds, 2 established Diamonds and 1 Club.
