Plan your defence of  3NT after partner leads the Diamond Jack (your suit)

From the lead you know the declarer has the Diamond queen and you can see all those lovely Clubs in dummy therefore in order to bring declarer down you will need to act quickly and find the right switch. Does partner have good Hearts or good Spades over declarer? Well the only way you are going to find out is by cashing the Heart Ace and see if partner encourages. If he doesn’t there is still time to switch to Spade.

Without much ado you play the Heart Ace at trick two and partner encourages so you can now continue with more hearts and you will take three Heart tricks as well as the AK of Diamonds.

With lazy defence declarer will romp home by way of 1 Diamond, 2 spades and 7 Clubs
