When this hand was played against me in Eastbourne in the Swiss Pairs at the EBU Summer Congress our very young opponents were very keen to take unnecessary finesses and not to draw trumps and by the end of the hand had managed to go two down.
After the club lead let the first trick come around to hand- you never know West might have made a strange lead from KJ. East wins the first trick and and plays back a club which you win in hand relieved to see that the Jack was not a singleton (maybe you could win first trick in Dummy).
You now draw two rounds of trumps leaving the master queen out.
Now instead of taking an unnecessary Heart finesse you simply play your Diamond King. East wins and switches to a Heart but its now all over and your losing Heart can be chucked on dummy’s Diamond Queen.
You make 6 Spades, 1 Heart, 1 Diamond and 2 Clubs.
