On this hand everything revolves around the trump suit. If you decide to play for a singleton Jack with East you will have to play your Queen and let it run  enabling you to PIN the Jack. If you want to play for a singleton King then you will have to cash the Ace and then hope West has the singleton King so you can finesse the Jack on the way back. However singleton Jacks and singleton kings in the correct hands are remote so how do you play the trump suit to guarantee no more than one loser if either defender has three.?

To do this you must start from your hand and when West plays the 4 (which he must do) you must finesse the 8 and now you always guarantee bringing in 5 tricks whenever there is a 3:0 trump break.

Now that you have done this correctly, when you play the Diamonds, carefully playing the AQ first leaving the K10 tenace in dummy the Jack falls in two rounds and you should now have no problem in bringing home 12 tricks from 5 trumps, 1 Heart, 4 Diamonds 1 Club and 1 Heart ruffed in the short hand.
