When you are going to establish a second suit you must make sure you do not shorten your trumps in both hands or the opponents will end up with more trumps than you and you will lose control of the hand.
With this I mind we are going to play for the trumps to be divided favourably (3;2) and we are going to set up dummy’s Spades.
After winning the first trick in hand, play a spade to dummy’s King. West takes his Ace and plays a second Diamond.
Win in dummy and now ruff a spade (the King will not go away)..
Now go over to dummy with a top Diamond hoping West started with a doubleton. West follows suit. You now ruff another Spades (still keeping that King intact)
Now cash two top Clubs. Everybody follows. Play a Diamond over to dummy relieved to see that West who started life with a doubleton Diamon also only had two trumps. Draw the last trump and enjoy the long Spades suit.
With due care and attention you eventually make 3 Trumps (from dummy) 1 top Spade, 2 established Spades, 2 Spade ruffs and 3 Diamonds and 1 Heart ruffed.
