When this hand was played against me the nasty opponents found the correct defence and I went one down UGH but I do now have hand of the week for you.
What do you make of your partner's lead after you have overcalled Hearts, OH with all those Clubs in dummy, it must be a singleton. I will play a club back for partner to ruff and at the same time give a suit preference signal to confirm that I want a Heart back. I will therefore play the Jack back confirming that I have the Heart Ace.
Partner duly trumps and play back a Heart to my Ace and I give him a second Club ruff, and we have taken the first four tricks.
Without this defence I might make up to 11 if not 12 tricks.
