Like last week the bidding was also from the Red Sea Festival. This week the bidding was equally bizarre and this South certainly got his comeuppance.
Firstly he forgot to open 1ª (the higher of two five card suits) and sadly bid the better quality suit UGH
West then converted the informative Double into a penalty Double. Could they now get the all important 7 tricks?
West kicked off with his top of doubleton Spade lead. East won with the King and correctly played up to dummy’s weakness ie a club and you were pleased to win the trick with the Jack.(Partner should assume you have converted the Double into a penalty double because you have lots of trumps and you do not necessarily need to ruff anything at the moment. You now continue with a spade and partner duly gives you your ruff. You can cash two more club winners. The defence was going to also realise the Heart Queen and pick up +200 often known as the “Kiss of Death” because it beats most part score hands.
You had made two Spades, 1 Spade ruffed, 1 heart and 3 clubs.
