When I originally played this hand I was careless and at the eleventh hour went one off. Pity I had not thought it through at the first hour.

Initially you only have four winners- 1 Spade, 2 Hearts and 1 Diamond.

On the losers front you have 1 Spade, no Hearts, 1 Club only (after the lead) and hopefully no more than 1 Diamond as long as West has a Diamond honour. You will also need to take any finesses (one in trumps and one in diamonds) when you are in the correct hand to do so.

With all this in mind, after winning the second trick with the Club King you now take the Diamond finesse, and West plays the Queen which is very good news. You now play a low spade to your Jack and West wins with the King and gets off lead with a Heart and when you try the Jack East covers and you win with your Ace.

Now draw one round of trumps disappointed to see trumps breaking 4:1

Now force out the Diamond King hoping that the Diamonds are breaking 3:2 with West having n original 3 card suit.

Your Diamonds are now established and you are in control. West get off lead with a Heart and you can win this draw trumps and enjoy the established Diamonds.

West exits with another Heart and you are now sailing home after drawing the last two trumps.

You made 3 Trumps, 2 Hearts, 3 Diamonds, 1 Club and 1 Club ruffed.

So what did I do wrong???

I took the spade finesse with the dreaded Queen (UGH) and at the end West had an uppercut in trumps. If I trump high then his 7 will eventfully become high and if I let the club go by then West has run out of clubs too and was able to trump to take me one off - UGH. All I have to show for this is this week's hand of the week JJ
