This hand came from a recent Crockfords match and both Wests played a second Heart at trick two. Declarer was able to now ruff and play clubs ruffing two clubs in dummy, not minding that East would be over-ruffing with a top Spade, Declarer mustered up 5 trumps, 2 Clubs, 2 Clubs ruffed and the Diamond Ace All he lost was two top spades and a Heart.
The result was the same in both rooms.
If West switches to a trump at trick two the defence will now prevail and declarer will go two off. Should West have got the defence right ? Even if West switches is West l going to play a trump or will he try Clubs.? Who knows??
