Mps where every trick is vital can you see how declarer brings home 11 tricks on
this hand ?
West
has led partner’s suit and it is therefore pointless to let the first trick
run around to dummy’s Queen since East will certainly win and probably switch
to a Heart and the defence immediately take 2 tricks. Also West’s lead could
be a singleton.
After
taking the first trick, since there is a shortage of entries to dummy, take a
Diamond finesse leading dummy’s 10. If it holds, finesse again. If the King
has not appeared (but it does so
here) draw trumps winning the third trick with dummy’s King in order to
finesse up to the Club Queen still in hand. The favorable lie of the cards
allows declarer to eventually throw one losing Heart on the 13th
Diamond. Declarer makes 5 trumps, 4 Diamonds and 2 Clubs for an above average
Match Point Score.
