shows a shortage in Diamonds (singleton or void) When we were defending this contract I
unwisely led a Diamond, lead through strength putting declarer to what I hoped
would be a guess at trick 1. However this proved to be totally
unsatisfactory because declarer was now able to win, draw trumps losing to my
Queen and eventually with a the Spade king well placed, was able to muster 12
tricks throwing his Club loser on the long Spade. My thinking was wrong – what should I
have done ? The opponents had shown singleton Diamond
so I should have known no future in Diamonds and should have tried a suit in
which no control was shown. They had shown good trumps and control in
Hearts and Diamonds, so all that is left is Clubs. Also, all I need was for
partner to turn up with either the Ace or Queen to establish one trick for our
side. I was hopeful about my trump trick Therefore at trick one before its too
late I should lead §3 to show I have honour Partner turned up with Queen. Declarer drew two round of trumps and
then tried Spades. I was able ruff third round of Hearts and quickly cash my
winning Club King before declarer was able to discard it on the long Heart- one
down guaranteed.
