take first three hearts and switch to AC plan your play.
You
will of course ruff the Club switch and take stock. Everything rests on how to
play the Spade suit. Should you play for the drop 22 and merely play off the two
top Spades ? Should you finesse West for the Spade Queen or alternatively could
you finesse East ? Are all these options open to you or have you listened to the
auction to give you direction. East’s double suggests he is
short in Spades and likes the other suits. He has only turned up with 5
Hearts so the rest of his distribution is more likely to be 43 in the minors
with singleton Spade. So at trick 4, after ruffing the Club Ace, you play King
of Spades just incase East’s singleton is the Queen and then finesse West for
the remaining Trump Queen. Having got over this hurdle it is now not
unreasonable to finesse East for the Diamond Queen .(He made an initial takeout
double – surely he must hold the Diamond Queen. You do not have sufficient
trumps left in dummy to ruff the suit out. After
successfully finessing in 2 suits, you will have obtained 5 Trumps and 5
Diamonds losing just the first three tricks.
