This fascinating hand came up from the Wroxton Bridge weekend and most of the time North South will easily make 12 tricks in a Spade Slam contract.
However if your partner leads a Club what immediate conclusion should you draw ? It can only be a singleton and when declarer plays a trump off the table you must certainly reject any notion of second hand playing Low and take your Ace and give partner his ruff.
This is the only defence to break the Slam. Following partner's defence will lead to success and despite have the JXX left over dummy's KQ10 you have to try that second club and get your second defensive trick by way of a club ruff.
