After taking the first trick we take stock and see that we initially have 4 winners only- 1 Spade, 2 top Hearts and 1 Diamond,
On the losing tally we have 1 possible Spade loser, 1 Heart, no Diamonds (as we can ruff) and two top Clubs. If we can eradicate the Diamond loser by dumping it on the long club or getting the Heart finesse then we are down to just 3 losers.
We have loads of potential from the trump suit and the club suit so we will have to draw trumps fairly soon so that we can establish the clubs without Walking into a ruff.
After winning the first trick we must ruff our losing Diamond with the Ace so that the suit doesn’t get blocked.
We can now start to draw trumps playing the Jack and overtaking it with the Queen so we can continue drawing trumps.
Once the trumps have gone we force out the Ace King of Clubs and claim our contract.
We have lost just two clubs and a top Spade – we won 5 trumps, 2 Hearts, 1 Diamond, 1 Diamond ruffed (in the short hand) and 1 Club.
