After partner’s  2NT invitation with 13 points and a Ten and 9 we upgrade our 13 count and  take a chance and bid onto 3NT.

Are we now up to the task of generating 9 tricks?

After the lead as long as West has led from Diamond King (from letting first trick come around to our hand and then finessing the Jack later)  we should get three diamond tricks. We have 3 top Spades and 2 top Clubs in the bag, so where will the 9^th trick come from?

Hearts looks tempting but a lot of hard work there so all that is left is Clubs. For a 9^th trick to come from the club suit, the clubs will have to break 3:3.

With all this in mind, at trick two we play a low club from each hand not minding if they were to switch to Hearts as that merely sets up a 9^th trick from the Heart suit instead.

West wins with the Jack and switched to Hearts but with the Diamond finesse working we now still make 9 tricks by way of

3 Spades, 1 Heart, 3 Diamonds and 2 Clubs. We might test the clubs first instead of finessing the Diamond a second time and with Clubs breaking we will make 9 tricks this way too.
