Unfortunately for me the declarer who was playing this hand against me played it to perfection.

Reflecting on the lead he realised that West had led from a three card suit probably headed  by the Jack. He knew therefore he had to cut communications  between the two defenders so held up Hearts until the third round had been played.

Most would now play diamonds hoping the Queen would fall in two rounds so he could enjoy the long Diamond suit but he thought this highly unlikely so decided to try the Spades first with the Diamond suit still a possibility.

After winning the third Heart ,he now entered dummy with a top diamond and finessed the ♠10. When this held he was now sure that East must hold the remaining two Heart honours. He re-entered dummy with the club Ace. He remembered to cash the Diamond King then, before taking a second spade finesse that was working.

He ended up making his contract with 5 spade winners, 1 Heart 2 Diamonds and 1 Club.

Unfortunately, we lost 11Imps on this hand and this is all I have to show for it

(NB If the deep spade finesse had not worked then and only then would he have to resort to the Diamonds being very friendly which they weren't)
