When this hand came up my partner , Anna Zoranab, showed here real skills here in counting her winners at trick 1 and realised that she needed to generate 2 extra tricks. With the Spade lead she now hand 4 spades, 1 Diamond and 3 clubs without doing any work. (i.e.7 winners)
The only way to generate the two extra tricks was by ruffing Diamonds twice in dummy. So without a moments further thought she played Ace and another Diamond. The defender took his Ace and played a second trump. She won this in hand and ruffed a diamond. She now cashed three top clubs (relying on the clubs to break kindly - she could not leave this suit till the end just in case one of the defenders were to chuck a Club on the 4th round of Diamonds) before trumping a second Diamond . Now she was able to claim the last two tricks with here top spades in hand. After a very speedy play-out she made 4 trumps, 1 Diamond 2 Diamond ruffs and 3 top clubs for a very well played hand. No wonder she plays in the Serbian ladies team.
