After quite a bit of bidding misunderstanding and a partner who does not like to bid less than Game, could I possibly make 4ª?

I would need a miracle layout of the opponents’ cards to get home.

The lead suggested a three or four card suit headed by an honour, so at trick 1 I played the 9 from dummy which yielded the King from East who immediately switched to Diamonds and the opponents took two diamond tricks followed by a Heart switch. I won the lead in dummy and with no entry to hand played a top club followed by a club ruff delighted to see the clubs breaking 3-3. I was not out of the woods yet. I now needed not only the King of trump to be with West but it had to be doubleton. I now played a low spade and finessed the Jack which won. I now cashed top Spade bringing down the King. I returned to the now promoted Spade Queen to draw the last trump. Now the hand was all over as I entered dummy with the Heart King and cashed two established Clubs.

I had made 5 trumps, 2 Hearts, 1 Club and 2 established clubs losing just two diamonds and 1 club.

(NB Had the opponents played a third round of Diamonds I would of course had to trump but now I would have lots of entry problems  getting back to my hand to draw the last trump, but I got lucky when they didn’t.)

You can also view  watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme  and it is available free from   http://www.haroldschogger.com/videos.html or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it )
