This hand from Ok Bridge my partner timed to perfection.

With only 7 top tricks (dangerously assuming trumps breaking 3:2) where do you go for the extra two tricks? Well there is no secondary side suit to establish and nothing to ruff in the “short hand” so where does one go for extra tricks in situations like this? Enter the “dummy reversal” solution.

Counting our tricks differently - lets count 1 Heart, 2 Diamonds, 3 trumps only from the short hand ie dummy so that means we now have to generate  3 extar tricks by ruffing Clubs 3 times in hand, the long hand. If we do this then dummy the short hand becomes the loing hand eventually hence the term dummy reversal.

If we are going to embark on this dummy reversal we will not be able to draw trumps.

So after winning the second trick with a ruff, enter dummy with a top Diamond in order to ruff another Club. Go over to dummy with a top trump (that is your entry) and ruff the last club. It is at this poibt hand has less trumps than dummy. Now cash your top Spade and eventually you will make your 9th trick from dummy’s last remaining top trump.

You made 3 trumps, 1 Heart, 2 Diamonds and 3 club ruffs.
