On this hand you must count your winners and possible winners in the same way you would if you were declaring.

Hopefully, you will get a second round of Diamonds 1 Hearts 1 Club, and perhaps partner will turn up with another trick for you.

Because South didn’t support the 2© reply from partner it seems that declarer has only two hearts so the first thing you will need to do when declarer plays a Heart at trick 5 is to duck a round in this suit. Declarer plays another Heart and you are at the crossroads as to what to play next. If you try to cash a Diamond and declarer is out and has a possible Heart left then declarer will get home. How can you resolve this ? If you play the Club Ace now partner will tell you by encouraging or discouraging and will help you to cash the tricks in the correct order. You therefore play the Club Ace and partner discourages which suggests partner wants another Diamond. You cash the Diamond Queen and partner now throws a High Club. You play a club and now take the contract one off with 1 Heart 1 Diamond and 2 clubs. As you can now see if you err declarer might get home with his trumps and Hearts> Also if partner had encouraged the Club and you continue the Club you cut yourself off from partner and will not get a second Diamond trick.
