This hand comes from ok Bridge and I was disappointed that my partner did not switch to Diamonds to defeat the contract.

After the lead of the Spade Jack, partner “should be able” to work out at trick 1 that I did not have an honours in Spades because in third seat if I had the King or Ace I would have played it.

Therefore, when declarer plays a club from hand  at trick 2 partner should take his King and make this do or die play of Ace and another Diamond and put me to the test of overtaking the Queen and cashing a third Diamond.

Declarer did very well to play Clubs at trick 2 before we could get our signals going but I think partner should have got it right.

Without this defence declarer was able to dump the Diamond loser on the third club

Declarer was able to make 3 Spades, 5 Trumps and 2 clubs whereas we could have made 1 club and 3 Diamonds.

You can also watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. To view this programme you will need  to download htttp://www.haroldschogger.com/bridgevu.setup
