Partner opens 1NT and you like both Majors you try Stayman and now partner gives you Hearts so you bid onto 4©. If you were playing transfers you would transfer to Hearts first and bid Spades next. Whatever route you take you should end up in 4©.

Now to the card play. After the club lead you have 3 club winners in the bag, and 2 Hearts. Dismal reading!! However on the losers front, it reads differently with 1 Spade loser, maybe 1 Heart loser and 1 Diamond loser. Seems your contract is in the bag. Can you make an overtrick even if trumps break badly

North has a potential tenace position with K10 of Hearts so the correct way to play the Hearts is to play the Ace first and when the queen appears from East you are at the crossroads of the hand.

Well when an honour appears from either opponent, the Theory of Restricted choice now says the other defender is twice as likely to hold the missing touching honour i.e. the Jack

With this in mind now play a second Heart and when West follows with the 9 insert dummy’s 10 and now make your overtrick not losing any trumps at all despite the 3-1 break.

You will make 1 Spade, 5 Hearts 2  Diamonds and 3 clubs
