Bridge should be such a simple game but many people try and make it complicated.

All you have to do here is listen to the auction. The opponents have bid 3NT and seem to be happy if you lead your suit, and they have bid both red suits. That  surely means partner must have the Spade suit- so lead this unbid suit and get a lovely surprise.

After you lead ace and another Spade declarer ducks the first and second and you play a third round.

Declarer now finesses the Diamond and partners gets in with that Diamond King and is able to cash 2 more Spade tricks. You have defeated the contract because you kept it simple and listened to the auction.

You amassed 4 Spade tricks and 1 Diamond.

You can't blame declarer for ducking the second round of Spades can you? If he had taken the second spade then when he plays the Diamond finesse the spade suit would be blocked and you would not be able to get over to partner's established Spades (but hindsight is a wonderful thing).
