Players hold up sometimes when they should not do so- they must have learnt a long tine ago that if the opponents lead your vulnerbale suit it is best to hold up to try and cut communications.

HOWEVER HERE it is not a good idea to hold up because you have another vulnerable suit i.e. Spades and if they switch to spades they could easily generate enough tricks from the spade suit plus a Diamond and a Club and you could go off. Since you and the dummy are extremely BALANCED the opponents distribution is also likely to be balanced. Therefore, hopefully the heart suit will bring favourably.

With all this in mind win the first trick and go to work on the Clubs by playing low to the Ten. East wins and plays low Diamond back to partner's known 10. The defence cash two more diamonds bringing their total to 4 defensive trick. The bridge gods are with you and when you eventually play the heart suit it does indeed break favourably.
