1. Playing 5 card Major 15-17 NT

The bidding is a bit strange here with West not opening 2♥, presumably because of the adverse vulnerability.

The NS partnership gets to the best contract of 4,

Initially declarer has just 3 winners i.e. the 3 Aces.

After the trump Ace has gone he will have 4 more trump tricks. He will also potentially have an extr trick in Clubs. This brings the total to 8 so where else can declarer get an extra trick or two? He will need to establish the Diamonds in his hand and if the diamonds break 4:2 he can trump 2 Diamonds in dummy, the short hand and his last Diamond will be established bringing his total to 11 possible tricks.

With all this in mind, he wins the first trick in dummy chucking a club away.

Now he plays Ace and another diamond pleased to see the diamonds about to break no worse than 4:2 with West still following suit.

East wins this second Diamond and because declarer doesn't appear to want to draw trumps now switches to a trump which East wins and plays a second trump. The good news now is that the trumps broke 2:2.

Declarer wins the second trump and continues to establish the Diamond suit by trumping diamonds twice with dummy's two remaining trumps finlally followed by a successful trump finesse bringing home 11 tricks .

He made 4 trumps, 1 Heart, 1 Diamond, 2 Diamond ruffs, 1 established Diamond, and 2 clubs for an excellent match point score.
