The lead is quite friendly and we should win the first trick in hand.
(NB By the way, from the Rule of 11 – 11-5 = 6 we know that East has no cards higher than the card that has been led and we can win the first trick in either hand- without the rule of 11 we can also work this out because the only cards higher than the 5 we cannot see are the QJ8 so they must all be with West).
We need to win first trick in hand to take the first club finesse, a depp finesse against West having both the King and Jack. If the finesse is going to be successful we need to play the NINE to keep in hand to repeat the finesse. When the 9 holds we now finesse the remaining cards in West’s hand and real of five club winners.
While we are doing this poor East is not in a position to know that he needs to keep Diamonds and chucks on Diamond away.
Because of this when we now play Diamonds we end up with four Diamond winners.
By the end of the hand we win 12 tricks by way of 3 Hearts, 4 Diamonds and 5 Clubs and the opposition wins the last trick with the Ace King of Spades between them
