One of the hardest parts of defence is to know when to get active and when to remain passive.
When this hand was played against me West chose to lead her 4th highest Club and now I had no problem in making the contract as this was my 12th tricks making 2 Clubs, 3 Diamonds (with the Jack onside and falling in two rounds) 2 Hearts and 5 Spades, losing just one Heart.
So what should West be thinking. The big hand is on her right and the opponents have only just bid 6NT with a bare minimum of around 32 maybe 33 so partner doesn't have much. She needs to be PASSIVE and try not giving anything away. With this in mind she needed to leave top of Nothing Diamond and wait for her two defensive tricks to come to her in Clubs and Hearts. Now the contract goes one down.
