On our hand this week at first glance it looks like we are going to have to make all our tricks from dummy’s long Diamond suit but the big drawback here is that there are no entries to table should the Diamonds come to fruition!!

Instead we will have to rely on Clubs to produce at least 4 tricks.

After winning the fist trick in dummy we must use this entry wisely and take the club finesse. This wins and we now cash two more clubs disappointed to see the clubs breaking 4:2 instead of the more favourable 3:3 break.

However since West cannot take more than three more Spade tricks we concede a club to East who of course plays back his partner’s suit, Spades, West cashes two more spades only and then exits with the Diamond king pinning our Queen (we had to keep our hearts so had shed a Diamond on the third Spade played)

It seems that West had been squeezed in Spades and Hearts.

After taking the trick with the Ace we were able to wrap up the rest and eventually came to 2 Spades, 3 Hearts, 1 Diamond and  4 clubs for a very good Match Point score.
