Plan you play in 4♥ after the ♦6 is led

Some people are finesse mad and when this hand was played against me declarer was on of those people.

Two reasons for not finessing the ♦Queen at trick 1:-

a) East had Overcalled 1♦ in the auction and there was a 100% chance he had the king since you had the A Q and Jack between your hand and dummy

b) you cannot afford to lose first trick and just maybe West has a singleton Diamond and would not get a ruff.

On the winners count you have 8 winners :- 2 Minor suit Aces and 6 trumps.

On the losers count you have 2 Spades and 1 Diamond

So win the first trick and draw trumps.

Now concede a Diamond and hope to chuck one of the losing Spades on the 3rd round of Diamonds.

It wasn't to be as the defenders cashed two top Spades.

When the hand was played declarer finessed at trick one and  then defenders switched to spades and because East's trump was the Jack, East was able to overuff dummy's Ten and the contract went one off.

She lost 2 Spades. 1 Diamond and 1 Spade overuff.
