On our hand this week we must have a little foresight and make sure we notice all the small cards and leave enough entries in dummy

After winning the first trick we need to draw trumps- It might be tempting to take club finesse and trying to dummy the diamond loser but we have better options later in the hand and that option would require the Clubs to break nicely- If the clubs break nicely we can dump a Spade loser instead.

East takes his Ace and cashes a Diamond before getting off lead with a Club.

We draw another round of trumps delighted to see the trumps break 2:2.

Now we can turn to the Clubs and we play a second high club followed by a ruff but the clubs are not as kind as the trump suit and break 4:2, However we still have chances as long as West has the Spade Ace.

We now play the ªQ to force out the Ace- maybe East has it and will take it now to give us the extra entry to dummy. However it is West who has the missing Ace and now takes it and exits with another Spade but our troubles are now all over. We can win in dummy and ruff another club with the ª8 retaining the 4 as our entry to dummy’s ª5.

We enter dummy with the ª5 and cash the established Jack and claim our contract.

We have lost 2 Aces and a Diamond and made our contract from 1 Spade 3 trumps, 1 Diamond, 2 Clubs, 2 clubs ruffed and 1 established club.
