Despite the appalling auction, can you now get home
after West leads a top Diamond ? The key to success on this hand is to count losers.
Initially you have 1 Spade loser and 1 Heart loser (because you can ruff after
only one round). Therefore, to make this contract you will need at least
two trumps in dummy to ruff losing Hearts. If you draw trumps it will take two
rounds and then you will require a good guess in Hearts (NB if East can resist
temptation and play low on the first Heart, declarer is sure to get it wrong and
then lose two Hearts as well as the Spade Ace. So for declarer to meet with success he needs to play a
Heart a trick 2 in preparation for ruffing two hearts. Now success is
