On our hand this week we will have to establish dummy’s Hearts and make sure we can come backwards and forwards from hand to dummy at the right time and also to keep control of the trump suit.
After the Ace of Diamonds lead you win in dummy and play one top trump noticing the fall of the Jack which looks awfully like a singleton which means the trumps will be breaking 3:1. If you continue to draw all the trumps then you lay yourself open t Diamond losers when the opponents get it.
So before drawing any more trumps trump a club to get back to hand in order to lead up to the Heart holding in dummy playing West for the missing Heart King. Having got to hand now lead a small Heart and when West plays low play low do you can keep control of the hand and create an extra entry to dummy.
East wins and plays another Diamond which allows you to trump with dummy’s small trump.
Now it’s a matter of drawing trumps and finessing Hearts. You now cash the other top trump in dummy, ruff another club in hand in order to get back to hand in order to draw the last trumps.
You now finesse the Hearts pleased to see the King appear and now you can claim the rest.
You made, 5 natural trumps, 2 Diamond ruffs in dummy, 4 Hearts, and the Ace of clubs for an extremely good Match Point score.
