When I played this hand on OK Bridge I was West and decided I was too weak for a Weak Two vul versus non vul and Passed.

I led my 4th highest spade and declarer thinking he had a secondary  partial stop with AJ7 of Spades took my partner's Queen at trick 1. He now tried Clubs and when my partner won the Ace and fired back a Spade the contract went 2 down.

What should declarer have done to increase his chances of success?

He can hold up the first two rounds and then hope that whoever holds the long Spade suit doesn’t have the Club Ace. This line would work as East did only have 3 spades and the Club Ace and communications between the 2 defenders would be cut.

I think declarer was expecting Spades to probably divided 5:4 rather than 6:3  as there was no weak 2S opener by either opponents and therefore it was best to hope that the club Ace was with West.

The winning line is holding up which is probably against the odds and the losing line is to take the first trick- you pays your money you takes your chances….I am glad he didn’t hold up J
