This hand comes from Ok Bridge The defender  decided that his Hearts were not going to produce enough tricks to defeat this contract so at trick 1 led a Club

Partner won the first trick and played back the §4 which ”must be” a suit preference signal asking for the lower of the two remaining red suit ie  a Diamond return. West duly cashed his Ace and that was the end of the defence and declarer duly wrapped up 10 tricks. What went wrong?

If West had trusted his partner enough he would play his partner for the Diamond King and underlead his Diamond Ace at trick three. Partner now wins the third trick and gives him another Ruff. .
