When this hand was played against me, declarer realised, that West started with six clubs and needed to be kept West off lead, He decided that because West had freely bid at the 2 level, West was more likely to hold the ♦Queen . After winning the third trick, he now cashed the Diamond Ace first in case there was a singleton queen about then took the Diamond finesse up to dummy's Jack.
This won and he proceeded to cash the diamond winners and the Heart Ace and King bringing his total to 8 and going one down.
So what is the message of this hand?
When we examined the score sheet afterwards we had a poor score as most of the other NSs went more off. Therefore when you are in a perilous contract despite bidding correctly, THINK to yourself all the other NSs will be in same situation and now its a case of minimising your potential losses which he had done.
