This hand recently came up in the Middlesex Pairs semi-final and unfortunately for me I was East playing against the mighty Steve Root known for his fine play at the table.
The bidding was not exactly scientific and my Double was dubious as was the redouble. However after a long pause Steve played the hand like a master that he is.
He drew trumps in three rounds and then found the only way to get to dummy. He played the Heart Jack. I had no choice but to win. I got off lead with another Diamond which he trumped. He now entered dummy with the ©10 before playing a club from the board. Playing me for both the Ace and King of Clubs the hand was now all over.
He eventually made, 6 trumps, 3 Hearts and 1 Club.
