On our hand this week, firstly we count our winners :- 2 Spades, and three Aces.
If good things happen in trumps and Diamonds we should be able to establish 5 more tricks between these two suits, maybe the Diamond finesse will work, maybe we will get the spade finesse right (always difficult when a two way finesse is available).
Secondly we count losers :- 1 Club 1Heart and possibly a Diamond and a trump loser.
How can we avoid making an incorrect guess in trumps ?
We will do a discovery play before touching trumps.
After winning the second club trick play a Heart to dummy's Ace and take the Diamond finesse which loses to West.
Now its odds on that East has the missing Spade Queen. Why ? Because so far West has turned up with KQJ of clubs five time suit and King of Diamonds now so surely if he had Spade Queen too he might have made an opening bid in first place.
Once you get the lead back play a Spade to dummy's Ace and finesse your 10 on the way back.
Now you make 5 trumps, 3 Diamonds and 2 Aces|
