On our hand this week we trust our partner completely for making a sensible 2 level overcall of 2§ and we reply to this overcall with 2NT which partner raises to 3NT.

West leads a top Spade followed by a Club and we take stock.

We are allowed to count 6 clubs (even if they break 4:0 we have the top 4).2 Diamonds and we need one more.

We could go over to dummy and finesse the Diamond Jack. We could go over to dummy and finesse the Spade Ten or we could led up to dummy’s King of Hearts. Well the bidding has made this an Open Book hand (ie where you know where every single important card is). West opened and must have at least 12/13 High Card Points which means that at most all East can have is 1 or 2 points only.

More importantly West is marked with the Ace of Hearts for his bid and you should finesse the King of Hearts for your 9th trick. straight away rather than having to make too many discards on the clubs early on and being in wrong hand to finesse the Hearts later.

West takes his Ace and   exits with another club. You cash all your winners and at the 11th hour West will keep all the correct cards and  take the last two tricks.
