After the first four tricks the hand becomes an “OPEN
BOOK”. You know that East has King of Hearts and KQJ10 of
Spades (9 points) and he didn’t open the bidding so cannot have the Diamond King
as well nor the KQ of Clubs. Therefore it is a pojntless exercise to finesse the
Diamond Queen when East tries to get off lead with a Diamond. Your only hope is
to go up with the Ace and play for and endplay against West who hopefully will
have to lead away from KX in Diamonds at the eleventh hour. Go up with the Ace and cash 3 winning Hearts watching
West squirm. Now play Ace and another Club and West will have to give you your 7th
trick at trick 12. (NB West could counteract this by throwing a High Club
playing his partner for the Jack – well done to all the West’s who find this
defence).
