With the Heart lead your trick count at Trick one is 2
Spades, 2 Hearts, 3 Diamonds and 2 Clubs. Your best bet for extra tricks in this No Trump contract
must come from your two Minors. If the Diamonds break no worse than 3:1 and
either the clubs break 3:3 or 42 with a doubleton Club honour then you will
establish one more Club. Firstly, you test the Diamonds by playing 1 top Diamond
from hand keeping dummy’s K10 tenace intact. (They are breaking) Do not play any
more Diamonds at this stage as you will need the Diamond in dummy as your entry
to a possible extra Club trick. Now start on the Clubs. The clubs break 3:3 and
because you preserved the Diamonds you will be able to get over to dummy’s
established Ten of Clubs (the 13th club). You will make 2 Spades, 2 Hearts, 5 Diamonds and 3
Clubs for a very good Match Point score.
