On this hand there are 12 top tricks without doing any work at all- 8 spades, 1 top Heart and 3 top Diamonds
Fortunately for you the opponent haven’t led the Club Ace so is there any way of discarding all your club losers?
Well you can discard two clubs on Dummy’s Diamonds.
In order to discard the last losing club you will have to establish the Diamonds if they break 4:3 but that’s all well and good if do you have an entry back to dummy. The nasty opponents have just removed the Heart entry and your only other entry is in trumps.
If you draw trumps too early that entry will go too.
Therefore, you will have to establish the Diamond suit first.
You win the first trick and immediately play Ace of Diamonds followed by a low Diamond ruffed.
Now you can start to draw trumps praying for a 2:1 break, winning the second trump with dummy’s Jack. Now you turn your attention to Diamonds and when that suit breaks kindly (4:3) you can claim all thirteen tricks
You will make 8 trumps, 1 Heart 3 Diamonds and 1 established Diamond for a very good Match point score beating all those other pairs who drew trumps prematurely.
