* Roman Key Card for Hearts

** presumably 1 key card either K© or Aª

Our hand this week from OK Bridge proved to be a comedy of errors by “experts”

Firstly, when South bids4NT indirectly agreeing Hearts as trumps when he hears one key card from his partner why did he now continue with 5NT and then to greedily bid 7D?

Secondly my so called expert partner did not read my Double, much to my consternation.

If at the end of an auction, like the one above, the Double. devised by Theo Lightner and  since then known as a Lightner double. asks partner to find an unusual lead, normally dummy’s first bid suit.

Since I had the AQ of spades I certainly wanted a Spade lead and this would have set the contract down immediately .

My partner made a passive Diamond lead  and of course declarer was able to draw trumps and dump the spade loser on the third round of Hearts UGH

You can also view  watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme  and it is available free from   http://www.haroldschogger.com/videos.html or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it )
