This hand comes from the OK Bridge site and Jack Lous one of the regular players on this site demonstrated how the hand could easily be made without any club guesses.

After trick one you can count 1 Spade, 4 Hearts, 2 Diamonds and 1 Club giving you an initial count of 8 winners. If the trumps break no worse than 4:1 you will get one extra trump trick. Now it’s a matter of finding three more. Two can come from ruffing Diamonds twice in the short hand and the final extra trick can come from establishing another Spade. (rather than guessing clubs).

After winning the first trick you can play another Spade chucking away a losing club. If a trump comes back you can now pitch the other club loser on the dummy’s winning Spade. You can then play Ace of Diamonds followed by a Diamond ruff. Come back to hand via the Club ace to take another Diamond ruff. Having taken your final ruff its now a matter of getting back to hand via a club ruff to draw the remaining trumps and cashing the winning club. You have made 2 Spades, five trumps, 2 Diamonds, 2 Diamonds ruffed in the short hand and one club.

You can also view  watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme  or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it ) and it is available free from
