What

This hand was defended by Ian Macleod and
appears in a new bridge book,
The defence of this hand is one of the
most audacious in bridge history. Firstly the Heart King was led, This was
ducked and the defence continued
with a second and third Heart clearing
the suit. When declarer played the Spade Ace Macleod threw his King. Declarer
tried two top Diamonds. He then played two top Clubs, preparing the way for a
throw-in but Macleod having masterminded the defence so far, was not going to
forget to unblock the Jack and Ten of clubs, thereby allowing his partner East,
to win the third round of clubs with the 9. He was then able to claim the rest.
