The
opponents have taken the first two tricks what could go wrong here ? We can only
afford one more loser and with such lousy intermediate trumpa we cannot afford
to lose two trump tricks and go off. This is the sort of hand that experts get
right all the time and the rest put down to bad luck !
When playing the trump suit
we must be very careful and take out some insurance in case the trumps break
badly. On the surface the trumps are not too exciting but
with a little more attention to detail we should be see that declarer has
K9 of trumps which is close to a tenace. We must therefore keep this tenace in
tact. After winning the first trump in dummy with the Ace we notice the fall of
West’s Jack. We now lead low trump from table and when East plays low we very
carefully play the ©9
and now we are in the driving seat. We draw one more round of trumps and merely
play winning cards. East can take his winning Queen when he wants to . We have
kept our losers to just three :- two minor suit Aces and a trump because of our
careful handling of the trump suit and being aware of the importance of the
9 of trumps.
